IMO? Serious in that is the only feasible and viable solution to meet the requirement.

You can file a TAR feature request with Oracle to do this for you.. but I won't expect that to be fully addressed in the near future. Likely only in Oracle 11?

Basic question you need to ask yourself is whether the requirement justifies this "extreme" action?

Also, IMO not really that extreme technically as the package is a very simplistic API - no Oracle core complexities. Extreme in the sense that you will be mod'ing an Oracle "system" package and impacting your Oracle SLA.

Suggest that you take this up with Oracle Metalink Support Maybe they can provide you with other alternatives? Worse they can do is request you to file an iTar.
