Here is my opinion -
Doing certification like OCP atleast gives you a target and motivation
to read the manuals. So you may learn lots of things in theory atleast.

But certifications don't guarantee a job. But tell you what, many
software consultancy companies are motivating their employees to get
certified. They use it as a marketing tool, telling their prospective
customers that the have xx number of certified people.

Though in my personal opinion getting a certification does not gurantee
expertise in that area. But it does not harm you also!
