Sane backup setup?

We'd like to finally start rman.

We have a number of not very large databases (up to 100G) running on multiple hosts (3-6).

We'd like to buy a server and attach storage to it for backups only. We'd like to create a 'private' gige network between database servers and this backup server. RMAN will run on the backup server.. RMAN will pull backups and put them on this disk array..

Is this a pretty standard setup, anything you'd do different (besisdes reduntant components, which I am not mentioning)? We'll probably run some non-expensive SATA based storage for backups.

How would you dump RMAN backups to tape periodically?

Thanks,
