It is possible to "install and run Oracle 9i and 10g" on the same host for _any_ supported platform, and if you find otherwise you should fully exercise your licensing rights by contacting Metalink. ;-)

This problem (multiple versions of vendor software on the same system) has been solved a long time ago -- don't try to re-invent the wheel. Do NOT relocate the oratab and oraInst.loc files from their default location for your platform, unless you are grabbing for "enough rope to hang yourself".
