Jonathan, the problem was in my experimenting with the database software. I have a small PC with only 512MB of RAM and I wanted to trim the database as much as possible. I excluded OLAP, Oracle*Text and data mining. The problem was that I was linking the database using ins_rdbms.mk directly. Somewhere in the process something was broken. When I re-installed the database software the way it is described in the installation guide everything worked. Bummer. Now, I'll have to buy 256MB more RAM.
