How to do a "fuzzy" or approximate matching of strings in a SQL where clause

Hello
My input data consists of a string field. I need to find rows where this string field is matching "approximately"!! i.e. I need some kind of a fuzzy match.

Is there any such inbuilt facilitty/function in SQLServer or Oracle?
