I guess i'm not making myself very "popular" with this reply (well, being an Oracle DBA isn't about being popular, as I experienced ;-)) but I believe that there's a lot of truth in your posting.

Oracle is not an easy task to learn - I would like to call it a "challenge". Still, there's huge satisfaction once one start understanding the concepts - but that alone takes months of studying, research and hands-on experience.

But, perhaps more difficult than learning and getting a grasp on the Oracle concepts yourself, is the fact of explaining those things to other people, often with a minimal Oracle background (junior developers, sysadmins, IT managers :-)).

People ask questions in newsgroups because they are looking for a straightforward answer to an often complex problem :-) I believe we should always treat Oracle beginners (I hate the term "newbies") with respect. Simply referring to tahiti.oracle.com, Google or "RTFM" should be avoided and is - IMHO - impolite and showing a lack of respect to the OP. I'm sure that people who found this newsgroup know of the existence of Google ;-) Nobody is born with Oracle knowledge, everyone has to learn it from scratch (but it's also true that some people will never learn from their mistakes and some people should never have been given a PC in the first place ;-)) And, like "Perm" said : don't post if you don't have anything of value to add to the thread. This only leads to flame wars and wasted bandwidth.
