I think that you should be able to access the data directly using an ODBC driver - just make sure that it's read only.

I'm trying to do it on my machine at the moment, but I can't get it to work. Will post later when/if I succeed.

When asking database related questions, please give other posters 
some clues, like operating system, version of db being used and DDL.
The exact text and/or number of error messages is useful (!= "it didn't work!").
