John, very simplistically from an Oracle and even o/s perspective, you are still dealing with volumes/disks. The only real difference is that physical disk does not sit in the cabinet of the Oracle server, but in another cabinet with something like fibre linking the two.

Do not treat SAN volumes/disks any different than what you would do local ones. The fundemental principles of SAME, OFA and so on, still applies.

SANs of course offer a lot more sophistication that using local disks.. and a lot more scalability. But the basics are the same and sticking to the basics is what count.
