What is CRS and what should it be used for?

Hi,

I've been looking through the 10g manuals to try to understand exactly what Cluster Ready Services (CRS) is for and have failed. I have found some command-line references for how to put processes, instances and applications under CRS control.

What I'd like to find is information of a more general nature, e.g.
- what CRS does?

what is can be used for
what it shouldn't be used for
can it be used for managing 3rd party (e.g. non-Oracle) components and applications, o more importantly should it be used for this purpose and has anyone any experience of doing so
what is the difference between CRS and using OEM grid control o is the 2nd simply a tool for managing the items being controlled in a CRS environment?
