consistent with your finding on the semaphore. Something I forgot to ask: which exact version of 9ir2 you running?
Logged on as SYSTEM, do a
SELECT * FROM V$VERSION
to find out.
I'll see what I can dig from Metaclick on semaphores and Mandrake+Oracle to see if it is something to do with the specific Linux release.
