Archive redo log file

In the Oracle Administrators guide it is mentioned that ArchiveLog mode protects the data in case of system/disk failure but NOARCHIVELOG mode does not.
Now if the Archive log files are in the same system as redo log files, then in case of system failure if we are able to retain data from archive log then we should be able to retain from redo log file also.
