It sounds like the time it would take to convince them that you are right is greater than the
time it would take for you to do it they way they think it should be done.

Prove them wrong... document the procedure to the nth degree, let them review it, and
then do it exactly they way that they want it done. Its not your time, its not your money,
and it make you a "team player" :-)

When that fails to solve the problem, bring up the index option again. What is the cost
of the index to the regular performance of the application? If it's huge, could you create
it just before the batch job runs, and then drop it afterwards ?
