Read the install docs carefully. There's a bunch of info on metalink such as note 175465.1 ( which covers RAC planning but also can be used even if you are not RACing ).

As far as remote stuff you will need a stable system that has x windows software of some kind and then you export the DISPLAY variable to the ip of that machine you are running remote from. May have to set xhost permissions ( man xhost ) also.

Do the os setup stuff ( creating oracle user, orainst group ) and set the kernel parameters before going any further. Plan out how much space you are going to use for the oracle install and the directory structure you will be using.
