Home -> Community -> Usenet -> c.d.o.server -> Slow boot on XP after installing 9i database
Last week I installed the 9i Database on my home computer running XP
Pro. Now, whenever I boot up, it takes 5 minutes before the desktop
responds properly to anything. I'll click on Start, and have to wait 20
seconds before the Start menu appears. In all other ways, the database
and applications work fine.
The machine has a 2.4 Gig processor and 512M memory. There are 32 Gigs of free space on both drives.
When I installed the DB, I chose the Personal Edition. I've also installed JDev 9i on the machine.
I have already set the database to boot manually. I start it by starting the OracleDB<name> service directly. I close it the same way, unless I'm just shutting down the computer anyway.
I'm about ready to reinstall everything, basically because I want to install it with the executables on the C: drive, and the DB files on the D: drive (all on D: now). Is there anything else I should know about installing that will speed up the boot time afterwards? Should I create a new XP account on my machine just for doing Oracle, and use the other accounts for everything else I do?
Thanks!
