I'd probably take a look at the number of IO (either physical or logical) with both indexes instead, with autotrace turned on. It might for example be that one of the indexes has a very good clustering factor, while the other has not. Or one of the indexes has more levels than the other (meaning that more IO is required to reach the leaf blocks).
