I assume that what you are saying, also pointed out by Bakker, is that losing _all_ controlfiles are very unlikly- and that's right. However, If I know I can recover from- say- someone stealing all my disks, I am confident that Murphy will guide those thieves to a shop were they will not be able to recover. But that's religion, no need to agree.

Of course having a standby db in a different geographical location would be a nice solution (guess that's data guard), but I don't have the resources...
