Redo log should be sized based on a balancing act where fewer log switches improve performance but increase the risk of data loss. The first thing I would suggest you do is apply four years worth of patches and get yourself to 9.2.0.4 or 9.2.0.6. Then, if there is a problem, diagnose its root cause.
