Please read the OP carefully.

His source 9i database is AL32UTF8. He is exporting this to 8i database which does not recognize AL32UTF8 when running 8i imp against the dump file.

Visit http://metalink.oracle.com and read docid 237593.1 (Although specific to Sun Sparc) and the one mentioned by Anurag few posts upstream.
