For Linux, I average 1 hour. Esecially when using a supported variant of Linux (or a free clone such as WhiteBoxLinux, TaoLinx or CentOS). Even for a newbie when following the simple play-by-number directions shown on http://otn.oracle.com/obe or the explicit info at http://www.puschitz.com

Just pop in the CD, start the runInstaller, answer a few simple questions that I never get the chance to set properly using a typical Windows install, and away I go.

Perhaps it's the operator and not the operation?
