Load balancing would be a huge one. Add another disk to a disk group and Oracle will balance the i/o across the additional spindles with nothing more than a mouse-click or two.

Another would be the lower cost in CPU over other volume managers.

A third would be a single consistent methodology across all platforms and operating systems in your data center.
