Really?:

Please consider upgrading your search skills - simply entering OID into the 'Search' box on OTN (http://otn.oracle.com) yields at least 100 results.

Further, going to the Documentation page from OTN, clicking on 'Search Documentation' and entering 'OID' into the text box yields

 387 matches across 24 books in Oracle Application Server 10g (9.0.4  295 matches across 32 books in Oracle9i Database (Release 2 (9.2))

Try this:

Perhaps the following will help:

OID stands for Oracle Internet Directory; OID is a certified implementation of LDAP v3; OIS *was* considered part of the Oracle9i Database; OID is considered a part of the Oracle Application Server 10g;

For Oracle9i Release 2 database, follow the trail:  http://otn.ocle.com

  >> under Services, click on Documentation
  >> under Database section, click on Oracle9i Database Release 2 (9.2)
  >> under Oracle9i Database Release 2 Documentation Library,
        click on 'View Library'

  >> click on Books
  >> click on Contents for either
	Internet Directory Administrator's Guide
  	Internet Directory Application Developer's Guide

For the Oracle9i Application Server or Oracle Application Server 10g, head to the appropriate documentation area, look under the "Management and Security" tab.

To answer some common questions:

Yes, OID fully conforms to the LDAP v3 standard.

However, the power of OID is in the Oracle-specific heirarchical LDAP schema which conform to the RFCs. The schema elements are detailed in Appendix B of the OID Admin guide.

BTW: unless you port these schema elements, and make appropriate Oracle Networking changes, you can't use 'any old LDAP' in place of OID. In that case - YOYO, as (afaik) support won't help.
