The first workaround does in fact tell you what you are needing to
know. Linesize and screen buffer width. That's it! That's all you
need for what you are describing. The other settings you describe are
for other display options, e.g. long - how much of a LONG datatype
should be displayed, pagesize - how often to repeat the page
title/column headings
AFAIK you cannot set screen buffer width in the glogin.sql file. If you are using the client SQL*Plus in Windows it will remember it for you.
As for using other tools for running sqlplus, e.g. windows command shell, unix shell, you need to find an equivalent buffer width setting. If you can't find one then it is a shortcoming of that utility, not a shortcoming of SQL*Plus. Solution - use a different tool.
While you are banging your head on a wall about this make sure you remember that SQL*Plus is not really the tool of choice for viewing of mass data. That's what reporting tools are for. Received on Wed Feb 23 2005 - 05:08:52 CST
