Well - for a V7, that won't work... Should be:
  svrmgrl
  connect internal
  startup

That should also work for 8.0 and 8i, although sqlplus can be used for 8i, too. As from 9i, you *must* use sqlplus; svrmgrl is not available any more from that version.

And you were not sure about the version... (It's printed on the CD, you know - or on the diskettes :) )
