You can mount a partition as a directory in Windows that's no problem. It's nearly the same procedure as assigning a drive letter. I think your problem is thinking one don't need any experience with Windows. That's obviously wrong. Learn the architecture and learn *all* the features. Afterwards if it doesn't satisfy you start arguing again.
