Here is section 7.3.3 from the TPC-C specifications regarding software maintenance.

"7.3.3 Software maintenance must include maintenance updates for both the software and its documentation over a 3-year period. The total cost of the software maintenance must include both the cost of distributing the software maintenance update as well as the cost of the actual update itself. These costs may appear as a single line item or separate line items. The actual distribution mechanism of the maintenance update need not be specified. The vendor must make clear to the customer when and how to obtain the updates.

The maintenance update may include additional features, existing feature enhancements, in addition to the traditional bug fixes. The bug fixes included in a maintenance update must include all that are qualified for general use and are not limited in scope to only that of the TPC-C application.

The maintenance update must not require a level of knowledge, sophistication, or effort to apply over and above the levels needed to install the software product.

It is reasonable that a software product may be stable and mature enough that it would not require any bug fixes; however, it should not be assumed at any time during the maintenance period that there will not be any bug fixes available.

Comment: Software maintenance, as defined above, means a standard offering which includes acknowledgment of new and existing problems within 4 hours and a commitment to fix defects within a reasonable time."
