imp from 8.1.7 to 8.1.6

I have googled and proded but haven't seen a solution to my version of this problem.

The customer runs 8.1.7 and we run 8.1.6. We're both going to 9i but that's months away. The customer gave us an export dump of their schema/data. We can't import it because of imp-00069. Customer says thay can't give us an 8.1.6 export.

Is there a way to import an 8.1.7 dump file into 8.1.6? Any conversion util, bit twiddling? Is 8.1.7's imp.exe freely available and would that import into an 8.1.6 installation?

Thanks for any insights, suggestions, or pointers to threads that I may have missed.
