However, you can use Veritas NB"s special version of TAR (stii GNU tar, but they decided it is theirs own:-) to restore RMAN backupsets from tape to disk, even without VNB Media server etc - just with standalone tapedrive (must be the same as Media Server"s one) After this, just catalog backupsets and recover

I am not talking it is easy - but as last resort - will work. For everyday business operations,
You MUST find the way (temporary net patching etc) for RMAN to talk to original VNB Medai Server
