I've tried to install oracle 10g on a x86 machine with linux suse
enterprise server 9. I've followed the instructions found in
the oracle 10g installation guide for unix.
I have:
1) created the dba, oper and oinstall groups 2) created the user oracle, primary group oinstall, secondary dba, oper 3) created /opt/oracle/app/oracle directory, given it oracle:install
ownership and 775 mode
4) changed the shmax to 512000000 (I have 1Gb ram) and
ip_local_port_range 1024 65000 in /etc/sysctl.conf 5) set ulimit -n 65536 in /etc/profile if the user logging in is oracle 6) set the ORACLE_BASE variable to /opt/oracle/app/oracle in
/etc/profile
7) gunzipped and uncpiod the ship.db.lbx32 file in /home/oracle
8) launched the ./runInstaller in the ./Disk1 directory
The install process went on smooth, no error given. I run the proposed script as root when requested and everything completed ok.
As soon as the installation was over, I could connect on the ports 5560 and 5500.
I rebooted the machine, but then I think something didn't start properly. In fact I could not http-connect to the aforementioned ports and a nmap localhost didn't show any of the ports which should be open.
If I issue ps aux | grep oracle the only relevant processes running are $ORACLE_HOME/bin/occsd and $ORACLE_HOME/bin/ocssd.bin.
I would be grateful if somebody could tell me what I forgot to do.
