Install error: IP address cannot be determined

I'm getting an error when installing Oracle 10.1.0 on Windows XP Professional:

"Thrown when the IP address of a host cannot be determined"

It happens right after I start the install and pick the Oracle edition to install. I cannot figure out what it's looking for.

The system is on a local area network. The network is working fine; I can connect to that machine just fine from other machines, and it can connect elsewhere. I can ping it both by name and by IP address, both remotely and locally. I'm not having network problems with any other application on that machine.

When I first got the box (with XP preinstalled), I did disable some of the unnecessary junk in the Services section -- things like Automatic Updates. I don't think I disabled anything important, and I can't identify anything in the services list that needs to be turned back on. But I could be wrong.

Has anyone a clue what the problem is? Received on Mon Nov 08 2004 - 19:13:22 CST
