Hello there!
I have a database on an AIX box and I am backing it up using RMAN. I have a separate recovery catalog (another database). A couple of days ago my backup started as it was scheduled but I got the following error:

RMAN-00571: ===========================================================
RMAN-00569: =============== ERROR MESSAGE STACK FOLLOWS

RMAN-00571: ===========================================================
RMAN-00601: fatal error in recovery manager
RMAN-03004: fatal error during execution of command RMAN-10039: error encountered while polling for RPC completion on channel d1
RMAN-10006: error running sql statement: select act from x$ksusex
where sid=:1 and serial=:2
RMAN-10002: ORACLE error: ORA-01089: immediate shutdown in progress -
no operations are permitted
I found it quite strange because at that time nothing else was running. After the above error I rerun the backup and it went through ok. Any ideas on what might have happen?

ORACLE Version: 8.1.7.4
OS Version: AIX V5.1.0.0
