If you would like to read a technical history of Oracle, pick up 'Tales of the Oak Table', available at Amazon.com, and read Dave Ensor's chapter on the history of Oracle.

Quite interesting.

For instance, the current foundations of Oracle were dictated by the 32k memory space of a PDP-11.
