Of course it is. RAC is the clustering of instances. Not the clustering of servers.

It is, of course, completely stupid to do so. But yes, it's possible. Check out www.dizwell.com, Laptop RAC article for proof.

The interconnect is everything to do with hardware clustering. Instance clustering is a completely separate issue.

Why won't people see the two things as entirely separate?! Then the answers to these sorts of questions would be obvious!

Of course multiple INSTANCES (not databases, since they don't coordinate with each other) can make use of one cluster interconnect. Instances make use of whatever hardware clustering technology is made available to them. They bring none of their own.
