Thanks Howard, for the reply. That was useful. Sorry I forgot to mention the version . It's 8.1.7.4 on Solaris 8.

So, do I have to have a DB created on the new server, for me to restore, or do I create this from the hot backup files ?

Also if you could specify the files which I need to have as part of the hot backup, that will get me started.
