The job of DBA isn't going away for those that understand that they must continue to evolve their skills. A DBA five years from now may need to understand skills such as UML diagramming (not just ERD). Like SOAP and web services and JAR and EAR files not just .SQL.

Those that can't or don't wish to evolve will go the way of the dinosaurs. Now you may wish to get a different job and if so I'd suggest beating the rush. But many young highly motivated DBAs are going back to school and getting the skills they will need.
