enterprise edition, or standard?

are you using "Managed Standby" or are you shipping/applying/purging archived redo logs via batch scripts?

do you apply archived redo logs as soon as they are available on the standby, or do you age them say 4 hours?

do you keep the standby database instance mounted, or do you fire it up at the end of the day?

It all depends.
