It's a fair cop. Yes, it was there in 9i Release 1. I just checked the documentation.

I'll just shut up for a while until I can actually get my hands on a database again. For now, I'm just relying on memory.

In my defence, I would point out that this parameter is switched *off* by default (that is, set to 0 by default).
