Based on what you've written I could do it on my notebook.

I would think any decent 2CPU Dell or HP/Compaq machine running Linux would be overkill.

BTW: I have hardware that has handled 20,000 inserts per minute so you are nowhere near describing a large number of transactions.

RAC might be of value ... but I wouldn't recommend it without first testing cache fusion block sharing.
