The *normal* method to develop a system is to come up with a model of business functions and entities (which doesn't imply any choice of platform or programming language), to develop a datamodel from the functional model, and then start developing/generating your code.

Other more informal methods usually end up in hell. As you already seem to have started from the wrong end (you don't seem to have any datamodel, and you are already designing a Java program) the changes this project will end in disaster are high.
