OP mentioned secondary storage devices (cd). I don't know if those are the 600M thingies we are used to or some larger new technology. I can somehow see people buying $200 cd jukeboxes and trying to use those for data files, instead of thousands of dollars for more, excuse the expression, RAID-5. One never knows without asking.
