There is no difference.
Likely you didn't use the 'compress=n' parameter on your export, and this is causing your problems. The result of this all your tables will be created in one extent per table, instead of n extents. If you have set your datafiles to autoextend, not finding contiguous free space using the 'new' storage parameters will result in the datafiles to extend.
