Well, that isn't a whole lot different than an Oracle newbie not knowing to search for NLS, right?

OK, I should have said "when I was configuring NLS for Oracle on a unix box years ago to test a language issue, I couldn't help but stumble over the unix locale command." So I thought, if I stumbled over it that way, an Oracle expert on linux ought to stumble over it the same way if they are doing anything beyond accepting all NLS defaults.

Many unix have man -k to search for keywords (like LANGUAGE or NLS). I forget what the linux deal with that is offhand, but recall being frustrated that a lot of linux stuff doesn't have man pages so you could grep everything if all else fails. And that's how people get over being afraid of any unix - learn to be comfortable with a few simple command line tools, and everything becomes accessible. Now that linux is bloating up, it's having Windows style problems. http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=04/06/10/1246219&mode=thread&tid=106&tid=166&tid=185&tid=189&tid=99
