Yeah, but you're not going to like them.

Take a deep breath first of all, and stop posting every 30 seconds as you stumble across some new feature of Oracle you're not quite sure about.

Secondly, go to http://tahiti.oracle.com and read some of the documentation. Specifically, find out what the difference between an instance and a database is. Then read up on the data dictionary and dynamic performance views. Then read up on Oracle Net Services. The Concepts guide is always a good place to start, too, but it's just a start.

Third, when you post error numbers, always post the complete error text as well. People don't remember error numbers too well, and not everyone can readily check them up for you. Since you saw the number *and* the text on your screen before posting, quote it all.

Fourth, visit some other web sites that might have information you will find helpful in rather more digestible form than the official documentation. Www.jlcomp.demon.co.uk is one. Www.dizwell.com is another. There are lots of them out there.
