What kind of lock are you trying to achieve? Are you perhaps trying to turn the read read-only, or prevent others from writing, or hide it from others, or what?

Perhaps a better question is 'What are you trying to achieve?'.

The way this is phrased, I need to ask (not diplomatically, but with no insult intended) ... Are you sure you even understand the concept of locking (as it applies to Oracle)?
