Have you tried copying files to and from this directory to make sure that 'normal' I/O works OK to the disk...

In my experience with the Firewire drivers and external firewire hardrives I found that they were pretty unstable.

I would try a copy to and from this directory (orcl) from both machines to make sure that I/O is working OK. If not, reboot each host to re-initialise the firewire connection and re-mount the ocfs volume...
