It wasn't my idea! I tried to explain to them that what they had done was like a zoo where they made things simpler by putting all the animals in one really big cage but they didn't get it......
This wasn't the only adventure I had there either. We had told them not to bother with raw devices when installing our product but they insisted.
A week later they demanded that I show up on site *the next day* because our application 'wasn't working'. They were located 9 time zones from us! $7000 and one night in business class later I get off the plane at 7am, get to their office by 8:30AM, find an index with 250,000 (yes, that's thousands) extents by 9am and by 9:15AM have established that when creating one of raw devices they entered '10K' instead of '10M' for NEXT when specifying default storage parameters for the tablespace.
I spent the next two days doing everything I could not to crack up laughing every time I spoke to them.......
