on aix 5L (5.2) use JFS2 with CIO (concurrent IO) mount option - bypasses VMM/FS cache completely
Gives you raw device performance ...
There are several Oracle/IO related whitepapers by IBM discussing CIO/DIO/Asynch I/O for AIX 5L...
