There is no mention of the CASE function in the SQL Reference manual. But I did find that it was available in a SQL statement in Oracle 8.1.7. The "Getting To Know" does list this as a new feature for 8.1.7. Unless someone knows differently, I'm going to assume that CASE was not available pre-8.1.7. So that does make my original statement in error, but I wouldn't blanket all of 8i with this function.
