It's been my experience that it really doesn't matter (to the database). Just make sure you have good backups of everything.

That being said, we typically keep the Oracle software on local filesystems. This is not for any performance reason. Rather, we typically have disk available on the local file system and we aren't going to use that for the Oracle database datafiles. And we like to keep our server's software packages on the local file system as a matter of convention.
