What is wrong with select count? Nothing particularly. Except that the OP was told that SQL Plus can't suppress results, which it can. And perhaps the OP might find the other statistics useful, too, given that the entire original post sounds as though there is some checking or verifying (and therefore perhaps some tuning) of the SQL statement in question going on.
